A Matter of Choice

A Matter of Choice

“The goal of business should not be to do business with anyone who simply wants what you have.  It should be to focus on the people who believe what you believe.  When we are selective about doing business only with those who believe in our WHY, trust emerges.”

Simon Sinek, Start with Why

We spend a significant amount of our time at work.  Don’t we therefore owe it to ourselves to make those hours as happy and productive as possible?  Don’t Robert and I, as business owners, have a duty to our team to provide them with a working environment which enables them to do their best work, to grow and develop, and to have fun while they do it?

Bloomsbury Wealth strives to provide just such an environment for its team.  We’re not perfect, and it’s a journey not a destination, but we strongly believe that if we hire intelligently and can create the right environment for our employees, we’ll do the best possible work for our clients, and earn their trust.

As Simon Sinek states in ‘Start with Why’, “A company is a culture.  A group of people brought together around a common set of values and beliefs.”

A few years ago Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, entered into a widely reported exchange with a shareholder at the company’s annual shareholders’ meeting.  The shareholder had asked that Mr Cook commit Apple to only doing things that were profitable.  Mr Cook replied that a return on investment would never be Apple’s sole driver.  “When we work on making our devices accessible by the blind,” he said, “I don’t consider the bloody ROI.”

He went on to add, “If you want me to do things only for ROI reasons, you should get out of this stock.”

Bloomsbury Wealth’s ‘Why’ is to help our clients to live the lives they want to live.  We’re not the right firm for everyone.  Because we hold dear a certain set of values and beliefs, we cannot be right for everyone because not everyone will share those values and beliefs.

Apple can’t choose who owns its stock.  Many firms offering financial advice don’t set any barriers to entry for becoming a client.  Bloomsbury is different.  We have a choice as to with whom we work and we choose only to work with those who share our values.

We offer a free initial meeting.  If you are interested in our service and want to explore whether we share the same values, get in touch.  It could be the start of a beautiful relationship!
