The end of an era

The end of an era

Given yesterday’s news, it seems appropriate not to publish a blog this week.

The time when we heard the news of the death of Her Majesty the Queen yesterday may be one of those moments at which everyone can remember where we were and what we were doing.

For many of us Queen Elizabeth II has always been there and given that she witnessed 15 British Prime Ministers and 13 US Presidents during her reign, among countless other world leaders, at times it seemed as though she always would.

Although she originally had no expectation of becoming monarch, circumstances dictated otherwise and she found herself in that position from the age of 26.  However, the tributes from around the world show us how superbly she fulfilled it and dedicated her life to the service of both the nation and the Commonwealth.  All this was accomplished despite huge changes in the position of the United Kingdom in the world over that period and her role evolved as times changed.

Over 70 years of public duty set a fine example to us all and we have lost one of the modern world’s greatest figures whose maturity, judgment and guidance enhanced the lives of so many.

Our condolences to the Royal Family and best wishes to King Charles III as he takes over the responsibilities of his new role.
