Time to think

Time to think

“The third-rate mind is only happy when it is thinking with the majority.

The second-rate mind is only happy when it is thinking with the minority.

The first-rate mind is only happy when it is thinking.”

 A.A. Milne

Robert and I recently attended two conferences in the US.  Taking time out of the office to attend any conference must always be carefully considered as to whether it will be a good use of our time.  Taking time out to attend two conferences, AND travel a huge distance to do so means the potential benefits should be exceptional.

Fortunately, both conferences exceeded our expectations and were well worth both the time and the cost.

On the drive to the airport to catch our flight back to the UK, we were discussing what we had experienced, the need to take the time to consider what we had learned that could be used to improve our business and just how we were going to find the time to do that.

Back at Heathrow the following morning, I was waiting to catch my connecting flight back home to France when I read this article which encapsulated everything we had been discussing.

I guess it’s the same for any business owner or senior executive: we all need the time to just think.  I, for one, am going to be changing the structure of my working week to be able to do just that.

“Thinking is the hardest work there is, which is probably the reason so few engage in it.”

Henry Ford
