29 Jan Bloomsbury Abroad!
Three times a year we hold an offsite day for the whole team. It’s a great opportunity to reflect on what’s happened in the previous few months, look at how the business is doing, and to discuss what we got right and what we could do better. Our best ideas always seem to emerge on these days.
Last year, I was thinking about the January Team Day and reflecting on the fact that although I’ve been living in France for over 11 years now, and work predominantly from here, none of the team has ever seen where I live and work. Light bulb moment – hold the next Team Day in France
So, a couple of weekends ago the team and their partners flew over for a wintry few days in the Gers.
Here’s some of what we got up to (outside of work stuff )
Home for the duration
It didn’t take the team long to get into the swing of the French way of life – a game of petanque!
Saturday evening at a local restaurant
Ten pin bowling. Mike was an absolute demon, and the clear individual winner on the night.
On their last day we took the team up into the Pyrenees, to one of the largest ski resorts on the French side, La Mongie. When we arrived, the weather was grim.
The plan had been to take the cable car up to the observatory on the Pic du Midi, and even though it seemed we wouldn’t get much of a view we decided to go anyway.
As we suspected, conditions weren’t any better when we arrived. Visibility close to zero and -13C
However, after a visit to the Planetarium and lunch, we noticed the first signs of the sun trying to peak through the clouds.
It was at this point that we noticed that a ninja had somehow infiltrated our group
No, wait a minute, it’s just Mike’s girlfriend, Alice
Little by little, the clouds parted, and the Pyrenees slowly revealed themselves in all their glory.
After only about half an hour we were enjoying brilliant sunshine and clear blue skies
The journey back down was spectacular
Back home for the final night, we were treated to a gourmet meal cooked by a friend of mine
All in all, it was a brilliant few days. It was great to get to know our team’s other halves, and to all spend a few days together having fun.
Oh, and during the Team Day we came up with loads of great ideas to implement in the business in the months ahead
I have a feeling we’ll be doing this again….
